77 . Foreign tourists happy with Vietnam’s visa exemption policy

Foreign visitors have warmly welcomed Vietnam’s continued visa exemptions for guests from the UK, France, Germany, Spain, and Italy, saying the policy is good for the country to spur tourism. From the beginning of July, citizens from the UK, France, Germany, Spain, and Italy will enjoy visa exemptions for the next three years, until June 30, 2021, as approved by the Prime Minister. “Visa exemption is good for the country to open to tourism,” said Anthony Dme, a visitor from France. Vietnam first offered visa waivers for citizens from the five European countries in July, 2015. The policy has been updated annually and would have expired at the end of June. French guest Anastasia Belkacemi said the policy made people want to go because they did not have to pay. “We feel like part of Asia that we can come in easily like Indonesia, no need visa,” Matteo Lelli, an Italian, said.  Vietnam is among countries with the strictest visa policy in Asia. The country currently offers visa waivers to visitors from 24 countries and territories, including the ASEAN member countries. The country has tried to improve the situation with an e-visa policy which is now available to people from 46 countries. Minister, Chairman of the Government Office Mai Tien Dung has said the government would consider proposals from the Vietnam Tourism Association on the extension of the period of stay from 15 to 30 days and expansion of visa exemptions for more countries. Some visitors felt pleased with the valid time of visa exemption while others wished they could have a longer stay. “15 days may be too short,” Matteo Lelli said.  “When you want to go to a country you want to stay long and see everything. So the visa exemption is longer, it’s better,” Anastasia Belkacemi from France said. Anthony Dme, a French tourist, said “I would say of course free visa for every time and everywhere is good, but we’re still glad for 15 days.” Michelle Armstrong from the US said it took her three days to get e-visa to Vietnam and it was very easy. Western arrivals to Vietnam soared in recent years, with 720,000 in 2015, 855,000 in 2016, and 1,500,000 in 2017. In the first five months of this year, foreign arrivals to Vietnam surpassed 6.7 million, up 27.6 percent annually, according to the General Statistics Office.  The number of European visitors rose by 11.8% year-on-year, including those from France (13.1%), the UK (9.6%), Germany (8.5%), and Italy (18.3%). According to the Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Report 2017 compiled by the World Economic Forum, Vietnam rose eight places in just one year to rank 67th in the world. “The main drivers of the country’s T&T competitiveness are its natural resources (34th), cultural resources (30th) and price competitiveness (35th). Vietnam has made significant progress on its human resources and labour market pillar (37th, up 18 places) scores, thanks to a better-qualified labour force (53rd) and partially simplified regulations on hiring foreign labour (75th)”, the report says. Easier visa application procedures for foreign tourists, as well as visa exemptions for visitors from the UK, France, Germany, Italy and Spain have helped attract more tourists from these markets, experts said. 79 . Best Things to Do in Vietnam (Part 1)

    1. Take your food fantasy to Hanoi It is a haven for all the food lovers. You can find in Hanoi the best delicacies in the country and at a cost friendly price. It is a big city which mean that there are multiple restaurants and places where you can get any type of meal you want. If you love eating unique and tasty meals, then you need to take a tour to Hanoi. It is better if you have a tour guide to help you explore the city without much hustle while you enjoy the tasty meals which are readily affordable. Food and Walking Tours in Hanoi There are also plenty of Hanoi Waking Tours. Personally I love food walking tours combined.  From pork to noodles and fish dishes, you will find all once you get to Hanoi. Our absolute favorite restaurant in Hanoi is called NEW DAY in the old town. Vegetarian Food in Hanoi Also, Vegetarians will love the food in Hanoi. There are many many options. All over Vietnam you will find An Chay Restaurants. “An Chay” means Vegetarian. Not everybody actually understands what vegetarian means, so they might want to put chicken on top of your Bahn Mi, for instance. Keep an eye on it and let them know by gestures you do not want chicken on your food, for instance. Vietnamese street sellers are happy to make you the sandwich you want. 2. Take a Tractor to the beach (central Vietnam) One of the most adventurous things to do in Vietnam was taking a tractor to the beach. This is one of the super-NON-touristy things to do! This beach we went to is North of the Mui Dinh dunes. There was a street food stall near the street. We stopped there, asked, they sent the tractor. They brought us to the beach through the Vietnamese dessert. We agreed they will pick us up again in 2 hours. We were beaching for a bit, took amazing photos, enjoyed the ambiance. There was also a small street food shop on the beach. We stayed at the Hon Co Ca Na Resorts for $35 a night. From here we took our motorbikes along the coast line to the dunes again and then took the tractor. The resort is super cool as well. You stay 5 meters away from the beach in huge rooms. The food in the restaurant itself was also amazing. The guy working there became our close friend, we chatted always with him and he gave us amazing tips. So, yeah, come over here! 3. Experience wind and kitesurfing in Mui Ne The region may paint a picture as being only a fishing destination, since it is famous for that. However, it has a lot more to offer in terms of adventure. You can get your gear ready to surf with the wind and sand dunes. It is a magical experience which adds to the excitement once you tour the area. It ignites a sense of adventure and if you do not want to surf you can watch the beautiful sand dunes to make your trip worthwhile. 4. Talking about Mui Ne: The Dunes The dunes of Mui Ne are one of the top places in Vietnam. Everybody knows about them. If you haven’t heard about it, well, you would have heard it soon enough. The dunes in Mui Ne are super cool and you even sandboard here. Wherever you stay, a hotel, hotel or home stay, they can offer and organize the tour for you. The dunes are about 200km East of Saigon aka. Ho Chi Minh City. 5. Explore the Hang Son Doong cave Located in Phong Nha-Ke Bang national park, the Hang Son Doong cave is the largest known cave in the world. You will be treated to a rare site in the national park where the cave is found. Tourists flock this national park to see the amazing cave which is reputable due to its size. However, you will have to pay an entrance fee to enter the cave and experience the beauty of greatness. Good to know: You cannot enter this cave without any guide. You HAVE to get a guide and you can even sleep here. Source: hostelgeeks

    80 . Quench Your Thirst with These 9 Must-Try Vietnamese Drinks – Part 2!

Trà Atisô (Artichoke Tea) The go-to drink for hungover Vietnamese men, trà atisô is believed to have liver-cleansing and detoxifying properties. There are two versions of the tea, which is usually served with ice—the sweetened yellowish version made from the artichoke flower and the intensely bitter black version made from the artichoke stems. Artichokes are grown in Dalat in Vietnam's cool Central Highlands but packets of artichoke tea are available in supermarkets throughout the country. Soda Chanh (Lime Soda) Soda chanh hits the spot on a steamy day: essentially, it's a fizzy homemade limeade that's usually served partially prepared. You're served a glass full of ice with sugar and sometimes lime juice in the bottom, with the can of club soda on the side. Sometimes you're given a glass of ice and sugar and a little dish of lime wedges so you can squeeze your own juice into the glass.  Bia (Beer) Many Vietnamese beers are only available in their home region, so your options will vary depending where you travel. In the southern hub of Ho Chi Minh City, formerly known as Saigon, the local beers are Saigon Red, Saigon Special and 333, all lightly hopped and slightly sweeter than beers from other parts of the country. In the central region of Vietnam, the local beers are Huda (the name combines the words Hue, Vietnam's former Imperial capital, and Denmark), and Bia La Rue, a slightly more bitter beer believed to have originated from a French recipe.  A visit to Hanoi is not considered complete without a pilgrimage to Bia Hoi Corner (at the junction of Luong Ngoc Quyen, Ta Hien and Dinh Liet) to try bia hơi (fresh beer), a low-alcohol draft beer with a clean, crisp taste. Rượu Nếp Cẩm (Sticky Rice Wine) Rice wine, which clocks in at around 29.5% alcohol, is the traditional masculine tipple and drinking it is a social activity (a very social activity). Groups of friends will gather to drink rice wine out of a communal shot glass or two. A range of wonderful snacks such as spicy squid jerky and barbecued meat or seafood usually accompanies this type of drinking session. Sticky rice wine (rượu nếp cẩm) is smoother and sweeter than the regular rice wine, which can be quite fiery.  Neither should be confused with rượu thuốc, "medicine wine", which is rice wine bottled with medicinal items which run the gamut from whole cobras, cuckoos, and seahorses to vegetarian options containing only herbs. Cà Phê (Coffee) Local coffee beans are roasted with butter and fish sauce to bring out chocolate notes in the final brew. Vietnamese coffee is prepared using a small metal drip filter, and is most commonly served over ice. You can't walk a block of any street in the country and not see someone enjoying a coffee in one form or another. The two most popular ways to drink local coffee are cà phê sữa đá (iced coffee with condensed milk) or cà phê đá (iced black coffee). Note that unless you specifically request "không đường" (no sugar) or "ít đường" (a little sugar), the black version will come with four or five teaspoons. You can also get your caffeine fix with a yogurt coffee or the Hanoian specialty, egg coffee, made with whipped egg yolk.  Source:seriouseats
